The Rescue Squad is a national leader in the recruitment, retention, and training of volunteer personnel. Using 150 professionally-trained volunteers, a career staff of 13 personnel, and one MCFRS paramedic, the Squad staffs a Monday through Friday “Day Crew” and seven “night crews” that respond to incidents 24/7/365, The Squad’s fleet, with a replacement cost of more than $3 million, includes 6 ambulance/medic units, 2 heavy rescue squads, 1 medic chase car, as well as utility and command vehicles.
The Rescue Squad’s FY21 (July 1-June 30) operating budget was approximately $2 million with a majority of that coming from individual donors, foundations, businesses, and occasional state and federal grants. The Rescue Squad is a member of the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service and does receive approximately 10% of its operating budget from County funds. The Rescue Squad is registered under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, and contributions are tax-deductible as permitted by law.
