Steve Friedman joined the Rescue Squad in February 1997 with prior experience as an ER and EKG technician gained throughout high school and college. In 1986, Steve was awarded with a commendation by the FDNY for the successful rescue of two individuals trapped in a burning vehicle. He has been involved in supporting the rescue squad as an EMT with leadership positions in efforts such as the Rescue1Run, co-managing the Bicycle Emergency Response Team (BERT) and prior service on the Board of Directors. Steve is a 30 year cancer survivor and has spent most of his professional career in oncology including the past 22 years at the National Cancer Institute where he currently manages its national cancer surveillance program.
Steve lives in Chevy Chase with his wife and three young adult kids and dog Oreo.
