SUMMARY:Virtual Rescue Day
DESCRIPTION:In light of COVID-19\, BCCRS in-person Rescue Day 2020 traditionally held in October is unfortunately cancelled. This year the Squad will be hosting a “Virtual Rescue Day.” The goal of “Virtual Rescue Day” is to provide the community insight into BCCRS activities via short pre-recorded videos posted on BCCRS social media. \n“Virtual Rescue Day” will be held in early December 2020. Each day in the beginning of December\, a short pre-recorded video highlighting current BCCRS activities and educational demonstrations will be posted on BCCRS social media. The goal is to engage and educate the community\, supporters and potential volunteers by providing insight into current EMS and Rescue related initiatives around the station. We would like to have all members of Night Crews to have the opportunity to be included and contribute to “Virtual Rescue Day.”

SUMMARY:BCCRS Rescue1UltraRun Fundraising Event
DESCRIPTION:On Saturday\, May 9 (06:00 AM ET start time)\, Pvt. Ashley Donovan (an active volunteer EMT and Secretary of the Board of Directors) will run the ~0.2 mi loop around our station at 5020 Battery Lane.  The Rescue1UltraRun will last 24 hours\,  raising awareness of the importance of volunteer firefighters\, emergency medical technicians\, and paramedics in our emergency medical systems. This event also serves as a fundraiser for BCCRS and Feed the Fight\, a local nonprofit coordinating meal deliveries to frontline medical and response workers in our area. \nPlease visit this Donation Page to support this effort! \n \nPlease note: this is a solo event–no other participants or spectators will be permitted on-site due to COVID-19 regulations. Please contact us for additional information regarding media opportunities. \nAshley Bio:\nAshley Donovan is from Washington\, D.C. and works for the American Chemical Society\, where she manages professional development opportunities for chemistry faculty. Immediately after finishing a Ph.D. in theoretical chemistry at Princeton University in 2014\, Ashley and a friend completed a 4-month\, 3\,165-mile run across the United States. During the trans-America run\, Ashley visited many volunteer fire stations\, which ultimately led her to join the Bethesda-Chevy Chase Rescue Squad in the fall of 2015. Ashley is an active member of the Sunday Night Crew and has served on the BCCRS Board of Directors since 2018. Ashley is an ultramarathon trail runner and regularly competes in 50 and 100-mile races.

DESCRIPTION:RACE THROUGH THE HEART OF THE BCCRS RESPONSE AREA \nThe race starts next to the Bethesda Chevy Chase Rescue Squad station 5020 Battery Ln. Bethesda\, MD 20814. Here local volunteers have been answering the call for over 76 years. You can drop off your bag\, soak up the atmosphere\, and get ready to support your local world-class rescue squad mile by mile. \nThe course loops through the heart of Bethesda and features fast running on Old Georgetown Rd\, Beech Dr\, Linden La\, Pooks Hill Rd\, Fairmont Ave\, and Woodmont Ave\, with a couple of good hills on Rockville Pike/355 to keep you on your toes. Along the route\, you will pass by Suburban hospital\, the closest trauma center\, and through just a small fraction of the neighborhoods in the BCCRS response area. \nYou will finish at “Rescue 1” (what members call the station)\, close to the start on Battery Lane. Here you can celebrate\, enjoy your achievement\, and enjoy post-race festivities. \nRegistered participants and volunteers will receive an exclusive Rescue 1 Run T-shirt. This years\, overall winners and age-group category winners will receive gift cards!

SUMMARY:BCCRS "Rescue Day 2018" Open House
DESCRIPTION:The Bethesda-Chevy Chase Rescue Squad will hold its free annual Open House\, “Rescue Day 2018\,” on Saturday\, October 6\, from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Rescue Day 2018 is being held in conjunction with the Taste of Bethesda\, the outdoor food festival held just two blocks away in Bethesda’s restaurant district. \nRescue Day 2018 will feature fire and rescue activities and displays for all ages: \n\nFire and rescue activities and displays for all ages\nFire and Rescue trucks\nTours of the station\nLive demonstrations of emergency medical\, rescue\, and firefighting equipment\nFree kids’ firefighter hats\nA moon bounce and more…\n\nThe Rescue Squad’s most advanced firefighting and rescue equipment\, including emergency vehicles\, will be on display. \nVisitors will get an up-close view of the helicopter and have the opportunity to meet the flight medics.  (Because the helicopter may need to respond to emergencies throughout the day\, its appearance at our event is subject to change.) \nVisitors can learn about volunteering with the Squad and receiving free training to become EMTs\, Firefighters\, and Paramedics. \nAnother special treat will be “Rescue 15\,” the Squad’s sleek 1972 Cadillac ambulance.  The last Cadillac to serve in the Squad’s fleet\, “Rescue 15” now serves in a ceremonial function at Squad open houses\, parades\, and other events and has become a favorite of kids and families \nThe Bethesda-Chevy Chase Rescue Squad is located at 5020 Battery Lane\, at the intersection of Old Georgetown Road.  Ample parking is available at Montgomery County public parking garages within walking distance of the Rescue Squad. \nLearn about volunteering at this event and for more information\, the public can visit www.bccrs.org or call 301-652-0077. \nThe Bethesda-Chevy Chase Rescue Squad is a community-supported nonprofit organization that provides outstanding fire\, rescue\, and emergency medical services to the greater B-CC area and Upper Northwest Washington\, D.C.  The Squad is a valuable community asset\, providing security and peace of mind to residents\, businesses\, and visitors.  The Rescue Squad’s annual door-to-door Fund Drive is now underway and continues through October.  Contributions are tax-deductible.
