At 1939 hours, Rescue Squad 741B and Ambulance 741C were dispatched for the reported house in the 8400 block of Irvington Road. The Rescue Squad was the first unit to arrive on scene and noted heavy fire showing from the 3rd floor to the rear. The crew of six assumed the title "Search Group" and forced entry on side Alpha. A rapid search for victims was conducted in the basement, division 1 and division 2, with all findings negative. The crew found fire fully involving the stairs to division 3 with some extension to division 2.

Meanwhile, the squad technician shut off the gas line to the house and worked on isolating the electrical power. Another Rescue 1 firefighter threw several ground ladders to the house and forced entry to the rear of the dwelling using a cut-off saw. The rest of the squad crew advanced behind the hose line to division 3 to assist with ventilation and opening-up the ceiling and walls for the engine company. The cause of the fire is under investigation. One firefighter was transported by A741C and treated for minor injuries at an area burn center.
