Community Donates Toys for TotsDecember 31, 2009 To view more Rescue Squad photos, visit the Squad's Flickr page: http://www.flickr.com/photos/bccrs
Community residents dropped off more than 200 toys at the Rescue Squad for the 2009 Toys for Tots Campaign conducted by the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve. "The outpouring of support from the community was terrific,” stated Capt. Johnie Roth, who coordinated the Rescue Squad’s efforts. He continued, “Given the state of the economy, we are heartened by our community’s response and by everyone’s desire to help needy children.” The Rescue Squad was reported to have collected the most toys of all fire/rescue stations that participated in Montgomery County. The mission of the Toys for Tots program is to collect new, unwrapped toys during October, November and December each year, for distribution as gifts to needy children in the community. Since 1947, the U.S. Marines have distributed more than 400 million toys to more than 188 million children. In addition, the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation, a charitable organization created at the behest of the U.S. Marine Corps to provide support for their efforts, has supplemented local toy collections with more than 81.3 million toys. The 2010 Toys for Tots campaign will commence in October. Toys must be new and unwrapped and can be dropped off at any official Toys for Tots collection point.
