Rescue Squad Volunteers Complete Kensington 8K Road Race

Rescue Squad volunteers proved their mettle once again, and supported the community, by competing in the Kensington 8K road race on September 25.  Ten Rescue Squad volunteers and three friends of the Rescue Squad raced as part of the Squad's team.  The event  benefitted three area public schools–Kensington Parkwood Elementary, North Bethesda Middle, and Walter Johnson High School.

Chris Abbey, Peter Brock, Dean Chai, Sylvester Chen, Hilary Gates, Wilder Leavitt, Sandy Linder, Mary Morningstar, Greg Newman, Dr Richard Newman, Craig Pernick, Ryan Schonfeld, and Susan Singley all completed the race.  

Hilary Gates, a  3-year volunteer with the Rescue Squad who, in her "other life," teaches English and journalism at Walter Johnson High School, organized the Squad's team, with the assistance of Rescue Squad volunteers Mario Weber and Joan Keller.  "I was proud to have the Squad's participation in this important community fundraiser," states Private Gates.  "It is always a privilege to be visible as a volunteer of the Rescue Squad and as a member of such a fine group of people who care about supporting their community while also showing the value of being fit."

Now in its 70th year, the Bethesda-Chevy Chase Rescue Squad is a community-supported non-profit organization that provides no-charge, professional fire, rescue, and emergency medical services to the Bethesda-Chevy Chase, Maryland area, as well as Upper Northwest Washington, D.C.  The spirit, commitment, dedication, and operational skills of its members are the defining characteristics of the Bethesda-Chevy Chase Rescue Squad.
