Donations of Stock or Appreciated Securities

Gifts of appreciated securities, mutual funds, or stock can be one of the most advantageous ways of giving. If your gift of securities or stock is one you have owned for more than one year, you may be able to deduct the full fair market value as a charitable contribution, while avoiding capital gains taxes.

If you were to sell your stocks or other securities yourself, you would generate a tax liability in the form of a capital gain. By donating the security directly to the Rescue Squad, you can avoid that tax liability.  The Rescue Squad, in turn, receives the benefit of the appreciated value of the security.*
