Early Morning House Fire in Bethesda

September 5 – Rescue Squad units operated at an early morning house fire on Lynbrook Drive, close to B-CC High School, in Bethesda on Labor Day.

Due to dispatch problems, the Rescue Squad units were delayed in their response, and were not first on scene.  The first arriving units from Bethesda and Chevy Chase reported heavy fire showing on Side Bravo of a single family dwelling, which turned out to be a fully involved porch.

Upon arrival, Rescue Squad 741’s crew immediately initiated its search of the entire house, which was fully charged with smoke.  Their primary and secondary searches were negative.  They then began shutting down utilities.  Because the basement was fully charged with smoke, finding the utility cut-offs became a challenging task. The Squad’s driver assisted engine companies with hose management, and then joined the rest of the squad crew in searching the basement for utility shutoffs.  Ambulance 741 Bravo set up an aid station.

Engine crews knocked down the fire on the porch quickly so that there was little fire damage to the interior of the house.  However, the fire did cause extensive smoke damage on all floors.

The initial report of heavy fire prompted Montgomery County Battalion Chief 702 to request an additional task force, in addition to the rapid intervention dispatch.  These dispatches brought additional units from Wheaton Rescue Squad, Kensington, Silver Spring, and Cabin John, along with Medic 741 from B-CC.
