EMT/Firefighter 

The men and women of the Bethesda-Chevy Chase Rescue Squad respond to more than 10,000 calls per year and have helped the organization evolve into one of the nation’s most advanced rescue squads.  In providing compassionate, lifesaving fire, rescue, and ambulance service, the Rescue Squad has garnered national attention for its accomplishments, which include the first human "save" of a victim in a fire using an innovative thermal imaging system, and the first medic unit in the state of Maryland.  The Rescue Squad celebrated its 50th anniversary in 1990 with a visit by President George H.W. Bush, who recognized the Squad for its progressive and outstanding service to the community.

The  Rescue Squad is currently hiring for the position of Emergency Medical Technician/Firefighter. This is a full-time paid position.  Benefits include paid health insurance and vacation.  We are located in downtown Bethesda, Maryland within walking distance of the Bethesda Metro station and within minutes of Washington, D.C. and Interstates I-495 and I-270.   We provide free parking for employees.

Interested candidates must meet the following qualifications.

Qualifications:

Must be qualified as an EMS Provider I or above in the Montgomery County IECS or obtain certification within 60 days of the date of hire. The candidate must also provide the original documents of the following for copying by the interviewer:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Current CPR card
  • Current EMT card

Medical Examination:

Applicant must pass an annual medical examination.

Criminal Background Check:

All candidates will be required to have a criminal background check. Permanent employment will be dependent on final review of the criminal background investigation.

Letters of Recommendation:

Candidates should submit at least one letter of recommendation from a current Fire/Rescue officer and two letters of recommendation from non-fire/rescue personnel.
