Late Afternoon House Fire

Rescue Squad 741  was first on scene and first into the house at a working fire in a single family house in Bethesda.

Units from Bethesda, Cabin John, and Glen Echo were dispatched at 1749 hours to a report of  smoke coming from the roof of a split- level house in the 8400 block of Thornden Terrace.  RS 741 arrived at the same time as first due Engine 726, with smoke showing.

After forcing entry through the front door, the Squad crew searched  both floors, finding no one inside.  The crew did, however, find considerable heat and fire in several rooms on the second level.  The fire had begun in the kitchen and spread to several other second-floor rooms.  While the fire was being knocked down, the Squad crew assisted with ventilation, and afterwards with salvage and overhaul.

Ambulance 741C also responded on the initial alarm and set up an aid station.  However, no one was injured.

Both units returned to service about 1915 hours.
