Door Pop in a Downpour

Rescue Squad crews quickly extricated the driver of a car who was trapped when struck broadside on Old Georgetown Road.  Rescue Squad 741 and Ambulance 726 were dispatched at 2034 hours on a Monday evening to Old Georgetown Road and Ryland Drive (just inside the Beltway) for a personal injury collision.

It was raining only lightly when they left the station, but units arrived on scene less than 2 miles away in a heavy downpour and found significant intrusion to the driver’s side door.  After stabilizing the vehicle, they used spreaders to pop the door latch and O-cutters to cut hinges to totally remove the door.  The driver was quickly removed from the vehicle, placed on a backboard, and transported to Suburban Hospital, along with that vehicle’s passenger.  The driver of the striking vehicle also was transported, as well.

By the time crews cleaned up and returned to the station, they were thoroughly drenched, but ready for more.
